Megan Dansie – Partner
Megan is one of the most experienced Family Lawyers in South Australia, having focused on Family Law for over 30 years of legal practice.
Megan joined Stevens Law as a partner in 2020. Megan approaches all her clients with compassion and understanding. Her focus is on assisting clients to resolve matters without the need to go to court.
Her extensive experience includes some years in private practice as a Family lawyer in a commercial law firm. She then moved on to being an instructor of graduate lawyers in Family Law, Wills and Estates and commercial practice. She also broadened her experience in Family Law and Mediation through her work with the Marion Community Legal Service.
Megan was a founder and mediator with The Marion Family Mediation Service. She also taught mediation skills to schools and the community. She is also trained in Collaborative Law.
Megan has extensive experience in matters covering the whole range of family law, including acting for parties in complex de facto and matrimonial property disputes (including ones involving businesses, farms and sole traders, and self-managed superannuation funds), spousal maintenance, children’s matters, child support, same sex relationships, and divorce applications. Her work in children’s matters includes ones where issues of domestic violence, drugs, alcohol, and mental health issues are involved, and where non-parents are seeking custody or contact with a child.
Megan brings experience and her understanding of the stresses involved in family law matters to all her clients. She provides advice tailored to your needs and concerns.
Jonathan Stevens - Firm Principal

Jonathan has over 20 years experience as a lawyer in South Australia. Jonathan has of course been instructed in a broad range of matters across the legal spectrum, from property settlements and children’s issues to the most serious of criminal charges, and most matters in between.
Currently practising predominantly in the area of Civil and Administrative Law, he is a member of the SACAT panel of lawyers.
Jonathan takes pride in the capable group of lawyers at Stevens Law who are producing great outcomes for the firm and its clients.
Danielle De Pizzol – Partner

Stevens Law were proud to obtain the services of Danielle as a Partner in 2019.
Danielle attended the University of Adelaide and completed a Bachelor of Media in 2004 and a Bachelor of Laws in 2006 with Honours. Danielle was admitted to practice as both a Barrister and Solicitor in the Supreme Court of South Australia in 2007 and to the High Court of Australia in 2010.
Danielle is a highly experienced family lawyer specialising in property settlement matters for both married and de facto couples, spousal maintenance issues, children’s matters (including domestic violence, mental health and drug and alcohol abuse issues) and divorce applications. As a senior family lawyer, Danielle is highly skilled in assisting our clients with complex financial and property issues, negotiating parenting arrangements and providing advice on child support matters. Whilst Danielle endeavours to resolve all family law matters in an amicable and efficient manner without proceeding to Court, Danielle has significant experience in Federal Circuit Court and Family Court litigation.
Danielle has developed legal expertise and practised in the areas of Insurance Litigation, Wills and Estates, Personal Injury, Medical Negligence, WorkCover, Superannuation and Criminal Law, however, Family Law is where she has excelled.
Danielle is both compassionate and understanding. She will provide you with comprehensive advice taking into consideration your particular circumstances.
Freya Penney – Senior Associate
Recipient of 2021 Doyle’s Guide South Australian Family Law “Rising Star” for individuals practising across family, divorce, parenting, and matrimonial matters within the South Australian Legal Market
Freya obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide before going on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice through the Australian National University. Freya then completed a Master of Laws through the Australian National University, specialising in Family Law.
Freya is admitted to practice as both a Barrister and Solicitor in the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory, the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia.
Freya specialises as a Family Lawyer, utilising experience from all jurisdictions to provide well-reasoned advice to ensure the best outcome possible.
Freya has exceptional knowledge of all aspects and procedures relating to Family Law matters. From preliminary negotiations to Trial (if unable to be resolved). Freya has consistently achieved excellent results for her clients, especially with respect to custody issues, parenting orders, property settlements, Conciliation Conferences, Binding Financial Agreements (in light of recent case law), existence of Defacto Relationships, and Grandparents Rights.

Joel Horskins – Senior Associate
Joel completed his Bachelor of Laws at the University of South Australia and Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice in 2014, before being admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in the Supreme Court of South Australia and High Court of Australia. He works exclusively in the criminal law and is passionate about obtaining the best possible outcomes for his clients. Joel is a member of the General Panel of the Legal Services Commission.
Joel appears in all Courts across the State. He is an accomplished trial lawyer, having successfully run Trials in the Magistrates’ and District Court, and Bail Reviews in the Supreme Court. This experience enables him to approach matters pragmatically and consider every possible perspective. Joel has an excellent relationship with Prosecutors and when appropriate, is able to negotiate suitable outcomes to resolve matters efficiently.
Joel is hard working and quick thinking, and clients can rest assured knowing that he will leave no stone unturned to achieve the best possible outcome.
Benjamin Newell – Senior Associate
Benjamin Newell graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in History and majoring in Political Science/International Studies. Benjamin also completed his Bachelor of Laws at the University of Adelaide in 2015 and his Graduate Diploma in Legal practice in 2016. Prior to entering the legal profession, Benjamin previously worked for the Australian and South Australian Governments.
Benjamin is admitted as a Barrister and a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia. Benjamin practices in the areas of Criminal Law, Traffic Law, Family Law, Children Protection Law, and Wills and Estates.
Benjamin is a member of the General Panel of the Legal Services Commission and is also a member of the Law Society of South Australia.
Larissa Stevens – Practice Manager
Larissa has over 20 years experience in the legal industry. Having previously worked for leading South Australian commercial law firms, she is now the Practice Manager of Stevens Law.
Larissa is responsible for the day to day running of our firm and liaises with all legal professional governing bodies. She is often the “first port of call” for clients and maintains oversight of all files. She is indispensable to Stevens Law.
